Serrada, Valladolid, Spain
With 350+ years of white wine winemaking in the Rueda, the winery, Hijos de Alberto, bring their artisan tradition and distinction to the DO. For more than 4 generations, the family, Hijos de Alberto Gutiérrez present verdejo wines aged in a massive labyrinth of underground cellars that date back to the 1700s. As an homage to the past, the family retains old wine presses among other early winemaking equipment to proudly display the origins of their winery. To appreciate the blending of the past with the present, we encourage you to visit their website.
Among conventional wine offerings, de Alberto has preserved a unique method of winemaking; their “Dorado” brand that utilizes the oxidative method, aging the juice of the verdejo in crystal demijohns in the sun. The wines are further aged in barrels using the solera method much like the sherries in Southern Spain. The original mother of the solera is more than 70 years old. These beautiful golden wines are elaborated either dry or sweet and have been recognized, earning multiple awards over the years.
