The Rueda DO is mostly dedicated to the white varietal, Verdejo. Located in a small town near Valladolid, Castelo de Medina began their production in 1995. The history of the Castelo verdejo vineyards date back to the current location then called “Tierras de Medina” in the 1700s. Castelo de Medina pays homage to its roots Tierra or “earth” of Medina and “castelo” or castle in Galician. The logo prominently features a castle motif.

The heart and soul of Castelo’s wines come from their 180 hectares, 30-year old-vineyards. For the past 17 years, the winery team has been directed by female winemaker, Sara Román. With the highest quality in mind, they produce young ready to drink wines utilizing state-of-the-art pneumatic presses and temperature controlled stainless-steel tanks. They also produce elaborations on the lees and in French Oak barrels.

The Castelo De Medina Verdejo line has won numerous awards every year including most awarded Verdejo in the world from the “World Association of Wine and Spirits Journalists and Writers.”  Sauvignon Blanc also appears prominently in the Castelo line which has also gather similar recognition. Sara and her team have achieved much success.
